How Voyage FCU Gives Back This Holiday Season

For many people, the holiday season is a time of giving. One of the core philosophies of credit unions is “people helping people.” At Voyage Federal Credit Union, our team strives to live up to that every day through their generosity to our members, and by participating in different ways, we give back to the community.

Employees really enjoy getting out of the office to participate in these events, and we’ve had a great turnout of staff participation. In addition to being able to give back to the community, it’s also a great team-bonding experience.

This year, Voyage set out on a goal to achieve over 100 hours of community involvement hours from August 2022. By the end of the year, we will have surpassed that goal, hitting over 140 hours! Giving time to the community in those 140 hours were 25 employees and every member of our management and VP team.

Our team worked to spread our time and efforts amongst four different organizations: Feeding South Dakota, Great Plains Zoo, Kids Against Hunger, and Chariots for Children.

Feeding South Dakota

With a mission of ending hunger in South Dakota, Feeding South Dakota helps provide access to nutritious food to all South Dakotans.

Voyage partnered with Feeding South Dakota and held 12 days of giving food drive in the month of November. In addition to the donated food, Voyage matched up to $1,000 worth of food given and presented a check on Giving Tuesday.

This money comes from our community involvement committee, which collects 50% of the Skip-a-Pay fees and donates it back into the community. During those 12 days of giving, we were able to collect 380 pounds of food for South Dakotans in need! Learn more about Feeding South Dakota here.

Great Plains Zoo

The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum offer up a variety of volunteer opportunities. During our time at the zoo, our team had a ton of fun raking leaves and cleaning up some of the exhibits. It was cool to be “behind the scenes” of the zoo. Learn more about volunteer opportunities at the Great Plains Zoo here.

Kids Against Hunger

Kids Against Hunger’s mission is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in South Dakota and throughout the world. They work to achieve this by distributing fortified casserole-style meals specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of hungry children by engaging a variety of volunteers to package the ingredients for the meals.

During our time volunteering at Kids Against Hunger, our team packed over 2,000 meals that were sent to Nicaragua to help fight hunger! Learn more about Kids Against Hunger here

Chariots for Children

Chariots for Children provides bikes, scooters, wagons, and walking aids to children in an attempt to bring families together to foster the meaning of giving from the heart. This year, Voyage helped Chariots for Children by putting together 135 bikes for the less fortunate. Learn more about Chariots for Children here
